The signs probably should say, “Welcome to Chicago, where’s our 10 bucks?” I’ll be mooching off the hotels shuttle for the rest of the trip.

They do have thing where you just drive through and then pay later

EZ pass it’s a good thing

You should try driving in Austin some time.

I saw some signs for that, but needed a receipt to get reimbursed from work. So I just paid the cash toll to make sure I had the paper slip to file with my expense report

If I had to travel more for work I would get one. Home state doesn’t even have toll roads so I normally don’t need one.

“Welcome to Illinois! Gimme your wallet!”
I’ve been lobbying for them to add that to the border signs for years now.

I got one for the twice a year I go to Chicago after an unmanned toll machine ate my Credit Card.

$10? Really?! Is that just for one trip or was that from getting on and off all day?

That was from taking I-88 into town and I-294 to an exit close to O’hare.

Goodness. I could drive the full 140 mile length of the Masspike for less than that.

I-80 in Illinois (as well as I-90) has a toll booth every 10 miles. Mmmmm...nothing like getting reamed for $3 every 10 minutes!

Doesn’t I-88 cover the Chicago Skyway? I forget. Anyway, last summer my parents and I went to Ohio from the Skyway. 4 axles, somewhere close to $50.

If I had EZ pass, it would have been half that.

I don’t think so, I could be wrong but didn’t see anything that mentioned the skyway while on 88.

Oh gotcha.

The masspike had tollbooths at every on ramp, so you get on it and then pay when you exit based on how far you traveled. Now there’s ezpass/plate recognition gantries between exits

Just wait until they finish(ha) the Elgin/O’Hare - I390... That 10 mile stretch of road will end up with nearly $4 worth of tolls and will have the highest $-per-mile average in Illinois.
I’m so glad I moved out of that clusterfuck of a state.

When did 80 get tolls? That was like the one interstate that didn’t have any.

The worst is when the traffic is bad, Google only gives you the tollway as a viable option, and you just flew in so you don’t have change for the booths because Chicago doesn’t want to upgrade so you can use a cc. I had to use the pit of hell they call a website to pay my tolls, and try to remember within 15 minutes which toll booths I passed through (which aren’t numbered quite as obviously as they should be so choosing from the list is a PITA).

I wondered about the whole pay later thing, seemed pretty easy to miss a toll till the system nailed you for missing one l.

It sucks, and it seems like the online payment system doesn’t reconcile quickly with the cameras sending out toll tickets to license plate addresses. I received a bill 2 months later (from the car rental company) for the tolls I paid the day I had to use the tollway with no change. Luckily, I had the pdf of the payments and the rental company reversed the charges.

I was going to say, the only toll on it is when it turns into 94, for sure there’s not a toll between Tinley Park and Moline.
